Amravati is a city in the state of Maharashtra,
India. It is the seventh most populous metropolitan area in Maharashtra.
It is also the administrative headquarters of the Amravati
district. Among the historical landmarks in the city are the temples
of Amba, Shri Krishna and Shri Venkateshwara.
Amravati is also the headquarters of the "Amravati
Division" which is one of the six divisions of the state of Maharashtra (Amravati
and Nagpur divisions together form Vidarbha region). Apart from Amravati district
itself, following four districts also come under Amravati Division: Akola,Yavatmal, Buldhana and Washim.
Amravati Municipal Corporation,
established in 1983, is the first Municipal Corporation in India, which has
introduced privatisation of octroi.
Melghat
Melghat Tiger Reserve
is among the first nine Tiger Reserves situated in the northern part of
Amravati district of Maharashtra state. This reserve came into existence in
1974, which lies in Satpura ranges in Vidarbha region and is spread over an
area of around 1677 sq. km. core area of the reserve,
Gugamal National Park covers 361.28 sq. km. area and buffer area of the
reserve, the Melghat Tiger Sanctuary covers 788.28 sq. km. The reserve has dry
deciduous forests with 41 species of mammals, 250 species of birds, 24 species
of fish and 160 species of reptiles and snakes.
Ambadevi temple
Shri Ambadevi Temple is
located in the centre of the city and is devoted to Goddess Ambadevi. The
temple finds its mention in ancient gazetteers and is frequently visited by
Hindu devotees. It is believed that Rukmini, daughter of King Bhishmak's, a day
before her marriage to Shishupal visited this temple. The
temple is thronged by devotees and tourists in large number during the festival
of Dussehra. Shri Ambadevi Temple is decorated during the Navratri, which is
celebrated with zeal by devotees and
natives. Along with the festive celebrations, a huge mela is organised in the
grounds of the temple..
Shri Gajanan Maharaj Temple
Shri
Gajanan Maharaj Temple is situated in
Shegaon in Buldhana district. Gajanan Maharaj was born in the 19th century. The
saint, who had miraculous powers, took 'Samadhi' at Shegaon. Later a temple was
constructed at the 'Samadhi' site. The temple is run by Gajanan Maharaj
Sansthan. There is heavy rush of pilgrims on Thursdays, which is a holy day for
the saint, and weekends.. Free lunch is provided to all devotees in the
temple.
The
Gajanan Maharaj Temple is a must visit destination for devotees. TheTemple and
its surroundings offer a serene atmosphere for the entire family to relax and
rejuvenate.
A
tourist attraction called 'Anand Sagar' is worth a visit. Surrounded by a big
artificial lake, it has a meditation centre, an aquarium, temples, playgrounds,
lush green lawns and an open theatre.
It is
easy to reach the Gajanan Maharaj Temple, as there is a bus service to
transport the devotees from the station to bus stand and to temple free of cost.
University was established on 1 May 1983
through partitioning of University of Nagpur.
The university campus is spread over an
area of 225 hectares, and the university is home to 20 post-graduate
departments offering 25 courses in different disciplines.
Amravati University is recognized under
Section 12(B) of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act of Ministry of
Education, Government of India. The University received NAAC accreditation in
2002. 127 colleges are affiliated with Amravati University, with an enrollment
of over 90,000 students for the undergraduate and graduate courses, together,
in different faculties.

of the Association of Commonwealth
Universities, London.

Government College of Engineering, Amravati (GCOEA)
Gcoea is one of the oldest engineering institutes in state of Maharashtra, India. It is located in
Amravati.
Beside engineering education, it is recognized research center for Ph.D.
Programs in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics and Computer Engineering
for Amravati
University. The student strength is around 1,700.
Government College of Engineering, Amravati, was
established in 1964 by the Government of Maharashtra, along with three other Government
institutes at Pune, Aurangabad, and Karad. It was initially affiliated to
Nagpur University and later on shifted to Amravati University in 1982. This Institute
started with three basic disciplines Civil, Mechanical and Electrical
Engineering initially. Subsequently degree programs in Electronic &
Telecommunication, Computer Science & Engineering, Instrumentation
Engineering and Information Technology were added as per the demand and
requirements of the country. The institute started part time post graduate
course in Electrical Power System in 1986 and later added four P.G. Courses in
Thermal Power Engineering, Environmental, Geotechnical, and Electronics Systems
and Communication. The institute also offers seven full time PG programs in
Electrical Power Systems, Structures, Thermal Power Engineering., Environmental
Engineering., Advanced Electronics, Computer Engineering and Geotechnical
Engineering.
College campus is spread over 114 acres of land
on Amravati Walgaon road. Public Work Department is responsible for
construction and maintenance of buildings. Every department has its own
building, two boy’s hostel and a girl’s hostel. The institute has plans for
five more department building of 9000 sq. m. area and two more hostels (for
girls and boys each). College at present has 10Mbit/s connectivity having
campus wide networking of 1000 nodes and also WiFi spread over entire campus
covering all departments, hostels and residential areas.
